How to Make a Porcelain Toilet Bowl Look New Again

  • Jayme Jayme on May 06, 2013

@Elyse ...thanks for the link. I really tried a couple of the suggestions. Totally destroyed a Mr. Clean Eraser and just happened to have The Works. All that remains is a grayness shadow where the hard h2o line was...thinking nigh CLR side by side. :)

  • A few suggestions. Never use any sort of metallic cleaning type of pad or any abrasive pad for that matter when cleaning porcelain. In one case scratched it will always get difficult to clean and will dirty up much faster. SOS with a bit of elbow grease and a good sponge should remove whatever leftover marks on the toilet.

Try this...Before bed if information technology is not in the main-bathroom, put a tea kettle on to boil, plunge all the water out of the toilet, pour in a gallon of vinegar ($3.00), then the hot water just enough to cover the are plus 1-2 inches. Leave overnight. Scrub in the am and flush. hope that works. If yous don't accept enough vinegar and are ocd about doing this now, put vinegar in a spray bottle and wait at least an hour so scrub and flush.good luck. vinegar besides takes care of that calcium crud around faucets by soaking a newspaper towel in vinegar are wrapping overnight.

    • This sounds like a good possibility. I'll let you know IF it worked.

  • Rub baking soda into the gray marks! Information technology worked for me

Genius bro thank you a million

  • Baking soda and a lightly dampened magic eraser worked, amazing, ty pizzahut666

    • Thanks Mary! I never had a bowl that was and then problematic to clean and made the fault of using brillo which turned it grey as others have pointed out. Your solution was only thing that worked later on bleach, vinegar, etc.

  • you lot take scrubbed the enamel off of the bowl the gray you are seeing is the base cloth off the toilet bowl.dirt/ ceramic material . you cannot put the enamel dorsum on in one case you scratch it off. Steel wool or anything abrasive like that Tin NOT be used on enamel ... this includes you stove, frig, dishwasher, washer , dryer and what ever appliances you have that have shiny finishes.... Stainless steel appliances will besides be a mess of scratches if yous employ steel wool on them

  • Drain the water beneath the gray stained surface area - it's just a stain - yous haven't removed the enamel. Then apply a niggling Pfaltzgraff Stoneware and Porcelain Cleaner and it volition be gone in a blink. :)

    • Thank you Mark. Your solution worked has for me. Give thanks yous

If all that fails, effort dumping a can of Coke in the toilet bowl at night and see if it removes the stain by morning time.

  • I had a similar problem- cleaned toilet vowel with wire scourer. In agony as I had no baking soda or borax & visitors arriving in a couple of hours I emptied my cleaning product closet and plant a well forgotten canteen of ceramic hob cleaner.... it worked. Piffling flake of elbow grease and a sponge and it'southward as proficient as new.Good luck.

  • I had the same problem! What finally did the trick was turning off the water supply and flushing the toilet to drain the basin, so putting "beekeepers friend" (the liquid 1) on it. Waited nigh a minute and it all only wiped right off as easy as you delight!

    • Aye! Barkeepers Friend worked for me. Thanks!

  • Lagostina stainless still pot cleaners works corking. Not only on porcelain toilets and tubs....just cleans grey marks on coffee and tea cups too. A cute tip to get inside your coffe pot and tea pots is to put automated dish detergent dry crystals into a lot h2o in the tea and coffee pots. Let stand for an hour stirring now and then with a spoon......instant make clean pots??

  • Barkeeper's Friend works!

  • Endeavor The Works toilet basin cleaner. The thin original one not the thick formula. Inexpensive and in Walmart or wherever! It has been this crazy tb cleaner that practically melted off water rust stains and I have used information technology for crazy odd nontoilet messes since so similar fluorescent orangish spray paint my kid sprayed on the brick of my business firm. If that doesn't work I think it's permanently damaged. I spilled on carpet and it melted it and so whatever is in it is strong! Lol

I did the same thing. I used steel wool to remove the hard water line and left gray scratches on the bowl. After reading all the comments, I checked my cleaning supplies and found a bottle of ceramic stovetop cleaning solution. I emptied the toilet of water and applied the foam with a magic eraser sponge and information technology looks like new. No more gray scratches! So you lot but need to polish the porcelain again with any you have - beekeepers or any glass summit stove cleaner. Good luck!!

  • Empty the bowl and use glass meridian stove cleaner and Mr. Clean Magic Eraser, and it worked like a amuse.

  • White Vinegar worked for me!

  • Yous did not etch the toilet! I used Comet and information technology worked for me. Dumped a bucket of water to get the waterline downwardly and sprinkled it on and scrubbed with toilet castor and then put some more than on top of that and let it sit down for almost v min. Took most out the first time. Repeated again to get the last bit.

  • So I made the same fault of using a brillo pad on my toilet bowel concluding nighttime which resulted in a big greyness circle from trying to remove the ring. I poured a bunch of Lime Abroad in the toilet and left it overnight. I read this forum and was well-nigh to try blistering soda with magic eraser. Notwithstanding, when I checked in the toilet the side by side day, the gray was completely gone. I didnt fifty-fifty have to scrub it. I hope this helps.
